Bowl Picks: Jan 2
International Bowl - South Florida v Northern Illinois
A couple of directional schools going at it. If S. Florida still had our man Matt Groethe then this may be worth watching for his last game as an eleventh-year senior. As it is you have mediocre offenses and defenses battling it out. It's hard to pick Northern Illinois when we haven't seen them play all year and there is no standout player on the team. Let them prove us wrong.

Cotton Bowl - Oklahoma St. v Mississippi
Probably the biggest disappointment of the year versus the team that can never seem to beat its rivals in big games, even when they are having a down season. Jevan Snead needs to keep the interceptions in check and if he can run the Ole Miss offense semi-decently they should be able to pull out the victory. I'm saying he can't.
Matt - Ole Miss

Papajohns Bowl - Connecticut v South Carolina
Classic smaller conference, non-traditional power team versus mediocre power team usually means the small team wins. And never bet on Stephen Garcia. South Carolina has little to no running game so it all depends on Garcia. Meanwhile Connecticut has a balanced offense and a dual running attack that should get them enough points to win.

Liberty Bowl - Arkansas v East Carolina
Will this be Ryan Mallett's last college game? If so it will end a very odd collegiate career where he so often impressed but never enough to really become a household name. Arkansas' offense is quietly one of the top 10 in the nation in points scored and its all due to the 3425 yard / 29 td year of Mallett. ECU's Patrick Pinkney as usual will create problems for opposing defenses in his last game.

Alamo Bowl - Michigan St. v Texas Tech
An interesting matchup in that you have the Leach shenanigans on the Tech side of the ball and the Spartans ravaged by suspension. They will play without 11 of their players due to their role in a dorm brawl. Tech was already the more talented team and now they are even more so with some of Sparty's top players missing. I'm betting they can put aside the Leach distraction and go out and win against a mediocre team.
