Bowl Picks: Part II
As I sit to watch the Cal v. Utah game, here is the next round of bowl picks.
LITTLE
CAESERS BOWL
Marshall
v. Ohio: Ohio is athletic and talented. They played fairly well in Knoxville
this year and are the MAC's second-best team. I actually am expecting a blowout
here behind Theo Scott (2,258 passing yards, 19 TD) and crew.
Picks
Matt:
Ohio
Ben:
Ohio
CAR
CARE BOWL
No. 18 Pittsburgh
v. North Carolina: Butch Davis. What is it about his teams that I don't like? I
can't put my finger on it. Maybe Ben can. They just don't seem good enough to
hang with a physical, blue-collar team like Pitt. I expect Dion Lews to get
over 30 carries and go for close to 200 yards. Pitt wins in bruiser fashion.
Picks
Matt:
Pitt
Ben: Pitt
EMERALD BOWN
Boston College v. No. 22 USC: Without Joe McKnight, USC might be in trouble. Luckily for them, BC isn't very good. I expect a very ugly game, on a very cold and foggy San Francisco evening. As a USC fan, I'm not even going to go to the game even though it's in my backyard. It won't be pretty football, and they will struggle to win.
Picks
Matt: USC
Ben: USC
MUSIC CITY BOWL
Kentucky v. Clemson: Kentucky has been one of the better unknown teams of the year, and has been very underrated. The Wildcats have a nice mix on the ground and in the air, but when it comes down to it, I really think C.J. Spiller will be too much. Kentucky doesn't have the athletes or the ferocity on the defensive side the South Carolina, another SEC team, used to shut down Clemson.
Picks
Matt: Clemson
Ben: Clemson
INDEPENDENCE BOWL
Texas A&M v. Georgia: Interesting matchup here. It seems just by looking at it that Georgia should be the easy pick and on expectations alone, I might be going with them. A&M is an improving and athletic team that took Texas to the brink. I expect a fight, but in the end I think Mark Richt out-coaches Mike Sherman, because talent-wise these two teams are pretty even.
Picks
Matt: Georgia
Ben: Texas A&M
EAGLEBANK BOWL
UCLA v. Temple: I would be surprised if Temple scores more than 14 points against this Bruins defense. Too much Brian Price in the middle of the defense and too much Alterraun Verner in the secondary. UCLA won't be overly impressive on offense, but efficient enough behind that stout defense (especially against Temple) to win 20-7, or in that range.
Picks
Matt: UCLA
Ben: UCLA
CHAMPS SPORTS BOWL
No. 20 Miami v. No. 23 Wisconsin: Big, white and slow against big, fast and athletic. Not a good matchup for the boys from Wisky. The Badgers have the ability to score, unlike some Wisconsin teams of the past, but I think they are going to have to match Miami score for score and it won't happen. I think John Clay has a big game, but Jacory Harris and the Hurricanes passing game will be too much.
Picks
Matt: Miami
Ben: Miami
