Week One Roundup
ACC
It was a rough day for the ACC.
Maryland was manhandled by Cal, Virginia Tech really isn't nearly as good as
Alabama while NC State and Wake Forest looked bad against middle tier teams
from other big conferences. The biggest black eye for ACC was Virginia's loss
to William and Mary.

BIG 12
Obviously the big story here is
Oklahoma losing to BYU and losing Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford for an
indefinite amount of time. With Bradford, the Sooners probably win, but the
point is that they didn't have him and they didn't win. Texas' path to the Big
12 title and the National Title game has been paved. Of lesser concern, but
still not good for the Big 12 was Colorado's loss to Colorado State. The Buffs
were supposed to be a sleeper team in the Big 12 North.
On the impressive side, Oklahoma
State really did dominate Georgia, and Missouri picked up a huge rivalry win in
a game many thought they'd lose. Every other team took care of business against
teams they should beat.
Iowa State 34, North Dakota St. 17
Baylor 24, Wake Forest 21
Oklahoma State 24, Georgia 10
Missouri 37, Illinois 9
Nebraska 49, Florida Atlantic 3

Texas Tech 38, North Dakota 13
Kansas State 21, Massachusetts 17
Colorado State 23, Colorado 17
BIG EAST
Not too much to say here, since most
of the matchups were tune ups. The big deal is Rutgers getting its ass kicked
at home against Cincinnati. Many thought the Scarlet Knights were the team to
beat. Maybe the Bearcats are the best team? The other game of note was Syracuse
looking decent against a bowl team from last year. The Orange really should
have beat Minnesota.
Cincinnati 47, Rutgers 15
Minnesota 23, Syracuse 20
West Virginia 33, Liberty 20
Pittsburgh 38, Youngstown St. 3
Connecticut 23, Ohio 16
South Florida 40, Wofford 7
Louisville 30, Indiana St. 10
BIG TEN
A pair of nearly disastrous upsets
were avoided with Iowa and Ohio State holding on against teams that should have
been blown out. What's worse is Illinois got destroyed and Wisconsin and
Minnesota weren't great against teams they should have pummeled. Teams with
high hopes like Penn State, Michigan and Northwestern took care of business
against teams they should.
Indiana 19, Eastern Kentucky 13
Northwestern 47, Towson 14
Michigan State 44, Montana State 3
Minnesota 23, Syracuse 20

Purdue 52, Toledo 31
Iowa 17, Northern Iowa 16
Michigan 31, Western Michigan 7
Missouri 37, Illinois 9
Wisconsin 28, Northern Illinois 20
PAC-10
A really good weekend for this
conference, and it would have been a great weekend if Oregon hadn't rolled over
in Boise. Besides that, every team won other than Washington, which played
great against LSU. California really looked dominant against Maryland and
should be a team to contend with.
Boise State 19, Oregon 8
Oregon State 34, Portland St. 7
USC 56, San Jose St. 3
Stanford 39, Washington State 13
UCLA 33, San Diego State 14
Arizona State 50, Idaho St. 3
Arizona 19, Central Michigan 6
California 52, Maryland 13
LSU 31, Washington 23
SEC
Every team in the conference won
other than Georgia. Alabama, Tennessee and Arkansas really stick out to me
because Bama played a top tier team and Tennessee and Arkansas are trying to
bounce back. Georgia was a disappointment, especially on offense with
quarterback Joe Cox looking terrible.
South Carolina 7, NC State 3
Kentucky 42, Miami, OH 0
Tennessee 63, Western Kentucky 7
Oklahoma State 24, Georgia 10
Mississippi State 45, Jackson St. 7
Auburn 37, Louisiana Tech 13
Arkansas 48, Missouri St. 10
Florida 62, Charleston So. 3
Vanderbilt 45, Western Carolina 0
Alabama 34, Virginia Tech 24
LSU 31, Washington 23
Mississippi 45, Memphis 14
NOTABLE NON-BCS
BYU! Wow. So what Bradford got hurt,
this was a huge win. The Cougars and Boise State proved they are for real and
should get a lot of respect as the season progresses. All the other teams played
teams they should have beat and did just that.
East Carolina 29, Appalachian St. 24
Houston 55, Northwestern St. 7
Southern Miss 52, Alcorn St. 0
Notre Dame 35, Nevada 0
Utah 35, Utah St. 17

I think the ACC and the Big Ten looked really bad and need to do something to save some face. There is no helping the ACC it is just a conference of middle of the road teams. THe SEC and the Pac 10 took care of business in a big way. That should be a good ongoing conversation this season about the best conference. Still got the SEC by a nose.
Major props to BYU. That was very cool.
If I'm a big time program, I'm thinking twice about scheduling Mountain West/WAC teams. Any gains from a win pales in comparison to the fallout from a loss.
One thing I think we all agree on: Thank fucking god (or whomever you answer to) that it's football season
I must say this blog has keep me coming back for a while.. the informatioon keeps getting better
