Saturday Spotlight: TCU with the most to gain
Wondering about a dark horse in the Bowl Championship Series?
Look no further than Forth Worth, TX.
The Horned Frogs, with a win over BYU, could make a push in the BCS, and with another chance for a big win against Utah later in the season, TCU has a chance to go unbeaten and beat good teams along the way.
With Boise State playing a very cupcake schedule, expect the voter's and the computer's to start liking TCU more and more starting with Saturday with a win in Provo.
With just one non-BCS conference team getting an automatic bid to a BCS game (if they are ranked in the top 12) then expect it to be TCU if it runs the table.
Here are the BCS' top 12 entering tomorrow:
1. Florida
2. Alabama
3. Texas
4. Boise State
5. Cincinnati
6. Iowa
7. USC
8. TCU
9. LSU
10. Miami
11. Oregon
12. Georgia Tech
I guess the next question, thought it may sound silly, is wondering whether TCU will have a claim to the National Title game.
In short, the answer is no. Because a lot would need to happen.
The Horned Frogs will likely pass Boise State as the non-BCS representative, but hopping Texas, Cincinnati, Iowa and USC will take some work.
TCU would likely need all of those teams to lose because I can't see the voter's and computer's liking them enough to hop one, two, three or all of those teams, depending on who ends up losing.
If Texas goes unbeaten, then there is no argument. If USC, somehow, is at No. 2, do you think we're gonna see the Trojans against Alabama/Florida or TCU playing the SEC champ? That's an easy question.
If Texas loses somehow, Cincy and Iowa, as BCS conference unbeaten's and champs, would have a legit claim.
This doesn't mean TCU isn't a great team, because it is, and it is likely the best non-BCS team. The Horned Frogs have a chance to prove it tomorrow evening.
