Week Three Roundup
ACC
It's hard to say if the ACC deserves
credit for the big wins of Florida State and Miami, or if it's an aberration. First
of all, perhaps BYU was overrated for beating a Bradford-less Sooners team, and
Miami might be a an above average ACC team that just a mediocre ACC team.
Virginia Tech's win? Not very deserved. Maryland and Virginia continue to make
the conference look bad. We are the leaders of the "Fire Al Groh" campaign here
at collegefbpoll.com.

BIG 12
Pretty solid day for the Big 12,
even though I thought Baylor should have definitely beat UConn. That one
surprises me. Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State took care of
inferior opponents, and Texas held off a game Texas Tech team. I was impressed
that the Red Raiders kept it close, because they played like crap. Seriously,
Taylor Potts is bad.

BIG EAST
A lot of bad and a lot of good for
the Big East this weekend.
The good: UConn winning in Waco;
Pitt beating a tough Navy team by two scores; Cincy going on the road to Corvallis
and winning pretty easily; Greg Paulus having a huge game and leading the
Orange to a win; a bad Louisville team hanging with an SEC team.
The bad: South Florida losing Matt
Grothe for the year; Rutgers beating Florida International by eight; West
Virginia basically giving a game away in Auburn.
This is an average conference, so
every week will have ups and downs.
Kentucky 31, Louisville 27
Rutgers 23, Florida International 15
Connecticut 30, Baylor 22
Pittsburgh 27, Navy 14
Cincinnati 28, Oregon State 18
South Florida 59, Charelston South 0
Syracuse 37, Northwestern 34
Auburn 41, West Virginia 30
BIG TEN
The thing that stands out to me the
most is the Northwestern loss to Syracuse. I really think that means the
Wildcats are near the bottom of the Big Ten. I was also impressed with Iowa,
controlling the game against a pretty good Pac-10 team. Again, Michigan State
loses a game it probably should have won, which is why we'll never take them
completely serious. Bad loss for Purdue as well. I guess this is Big Ten
football.
Michigan 45, Eastern Michigan 17
California 35, Minnesota 21
Penn State 31, Temple 6
Wisconsin 44, Wofford 14
Northern Illinois 28, Purdue 21
Ohio State 38, Toledo 0
Notre Dame 33, Michigan State 30
Indiana 38, Akron 21
Iowa 27, Arizona 17
Syracuse 37, Northwestern 34
PAC-10
Bad, bad day for the Pac-10. I don't
look at the Washington win over USC as a good thing for the conference. I think
USC looking bad on a national scale outweighs Washington's "resurgence" if that
is what you want to call it. Oregon State also looked bad in a game with big implications.
Oregon struggled, but got it done, but Arizona fell flat. The most impressive
game was Cal's 9:00 a.m. win at Minnesota. Throw out the third quarter, and Cal
wins this game by 28 points.
California 35, Minnesota 21
Washington 16, USC 13
Oregon 31, Utah 24
Iowa 27, Arizona 17
Washington State 30, SMU 27
Cincinnati 28, Oregon State 18
Stanford 42, San Jose State 17
Arizona State 38, Louisiana-Monroe

UCLA 23, Kansas State 9
SEC
You know what I am most impressed
with this week with the SEC? Look at all those points. Georgia, Arkansas and
Auburn all went for over 40 points against big programs and Mississippi and
Alabama were also over 50. Who would have thought Florida would be the least
productive of the winning teams? Speaking of that game, I was impressed with
Tennessee, but it doesn't mean Florida is vulnerable. The Vols played a good
game and had a good game plan, sucking the Gators in a little bit. Still,
Florida was in complete control. This conference is always great, but now I
think it's turning into a lot of fun week in and week out.
Kentucky 31, Louisville 27
Alabama 53, North Texas 7
Florida 23, Tennessee 13
LSU 31, Louisiana-Lafayette 3
Mississippi State 15, Vanderbilt 3
South Carolina 38, Florida Atlantic
16
Mississippi 52, SE Louisiana 6
Auburn 41, West Virginia 30
Georgia 52, Arkansas 41
NOTABLE NON-BCS
Louisiana Tech and Nevada were taken
off the "notable" list here because they are no longer relevant. East Carolina
is in danger of becoming just that, as well. Central Michigan and Army join the
list, however.
So... just two BCS busters left in
Boise State and TCU. Utah and BYU go down. BYU going down hard. I'm kinda
digging this Central Michigan team, and I can't help but root for the Cadets
from West Point.
North Carolina 31, East Carolina 17
Southern Miss 37, Virginia 34
Notre Dame 33, Michigan State 30
Army 24, Ball State 17
Pittsburgh 27, Navy 14

TCU 56, Texas St. 21
Florida State 54, BYU 28
Air Force 37, New Mexico 13
Oregon 31, Utah 24
